PUPILS are aiming for the Christmas number one slot this year after releasing an album to support lifesaving heroes.

Children of Manor Church of England Academy, in Millfield Road, Nether Poppleton, decided to pen the six-song festive collection to fundraise for the Air Ambulance.

Youngsters were determined to do something for the 999 crew after they helped one of their friends when he fell 15ft in the autumn.

Euan Kindelan, 13, suffered serious head injuries earlier this year when the pupil fell backwards from a bannister and down a stairwell.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary and the school took to social media in October to reveal he was making “good progress.”

The Press reported at the time how pupils were planning on fundraising for the school, and their album, entitled The Light, is now available on iTunes.

It peaked at number one in the Christian and Gospel charts, and now sits at number three on the downloads site.

The album also has a comedy podcast, featuring the school’s triplets Wes, Josh and Brad Needham, who discuss the tracks.

Dave Lowe, head of Music at Manor CE Academy, said: “The students have created the album to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, who saved the life of one of their friends following a accident at the school in October.

York Press:

“We put it out to see how it would do and it reached number one on Monday, which was pretty amazing.

“We are hoping to spread the word and get enough streams to give us a chance of getting into the UK album chart at the end of the week.

“Please support this project by sharing the link below with as many people as possible around the world and help to make a difference this Christmas.”
