THE Lord Mayor of York didn’t let a little illness stop him and his partner entertaining patients at York Hospital.

Cllr Dave Taylor’s performance on York Hospital Radio was so good the volunteers who run the service are considering inviting him back for a repeat show after he finishes his year in office.

He had a bit of a cold but didn’t let that stop him going to the studio and donning headphones along with Lady Mayoress Susan Ridley on Saturday morning. He even provided the music.

“They were very, very good,” said one of the radio’s regular presenters, Steve Eccles. “Of course the Lord Mayor used to play in a band in the Eighties so he was able to bring some of his own records in and we were able to play them.”

As well as talking about his musical experiences, the Lord Mayor also talked enthusiastically about his recent visit on behalf of the city to China. The Lady Mayoress also talked about her experiences as the city’s leading lady.

Asked if there would be a repeat invitation, Mr Eccles said: “I think that’s a big yes.”

York Hospital Radio broadcasts primarily to inpatients at the hospital, but can also be heard at a limited range of outpatient areas.

It is manned by volunteer presenters, and broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a mixture of music, request shows, football commentaries from Bootham Crescent, outside broadcasts from theatre and concert venues and information to help patients during their stay in the hospital.
