Woman sexually assaulted policeman who tried to breathalyse her

Sally Brown, 39, was “beyond control” when she was stopped for drink driving on February 28, York Crown Court heard.

A succession of police officers gave evidence that she touched a male officer between the legs as he prepared to carry out a breath test, pulled down her dress and invited him to touch her breasts and told a custody officer at Scarborough Police Station she would “look good in leather with a whip”.

Brown, 39, of Lodge Close, Scarborough, denied touching the male officer sexually, behaving in a sexual way, and claimed that she had not made any sexual comments and that innocent remarks had been misinterpreted.

A jury convicted her of sexually assaulting the officer after one and a half hours in retirement. She had admitted drink driving in Scarborough town centre, for which she was sentenced by Scarborough magistrates earlier this year.

Giving her a five-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months on condition she observe a 12-hour curfew for five months, the Honorary Recorder of York, Judge Paul Batty QC said: “It is intended to at least curtail your nocturnal activities certainly in the near future.”

Earlier he had said: “This was a serving police officer doing no more than his duty, and he was subjected to the grossest vilification by a drunken prostitute. This woman was completely beyond control.”

He told her: “You were abusive to the male officer, you were lewd, disgusting. You sought to grope the arresting officer.

“Police officers are entitled to the protection of the courts and in this regard, your behaviour was absolutely disgusting.”

Brown will be on the sex offenders’ register for seven years.

Her barrister Glenn Parsons said she was no longer a sex worker. She had suffered shame through publication in the national tabloid press about the court case and had lost her good character as it was her first time in trouble with the police.
