A 93-YEAR-OLD tried out a Viking longboat on wheels for size.
Ted Lumley, of Huntington, won the Scarcroft School soapbox cart in a raffle and helped the school to raise £490 for Candlelighters.
He promptly donated his prize back to the school.
Pupils chose to support Candlelighters in their work supporting families in their fight against children’s cancer because the charity has helped people in the area. The school community teamed up to design, build and race the longboat soapbox cart in the Micklegate Soapbox Challenge in York in the summer.
