HOT on the heels of best-selling author Bernard Cornwell's York visit comes an appearance tomorrow by a green-jacketed hero from his most popular series.

Jason Salkey, who played Rifleman Harris in ITV's Sharpe, will be taking over York Army Museum for one day only.

He is looking forward to meeting fans and browsers, as well as answering questions and signing collections of memorabilia taken from his time acting as one of the "Chosen Men".

"I am honoured to be doing my first appearance in York," said Mr Salkey. "If you have any Sharpe-related questions, I will answer them. If you fancy a signed photo, that can be arranged. Hope to see you at the York Army Museum tomorrow."

Mr Salkey will be in full regalia as Rifleman Harris but whether he stays in costume after the event remains to be seen. Greg McGee, of nearby gallery According To McGee, who helped to organise the event, said: "There's a group of us who are big Sharpe fans who are looking forward to taking our favourite Chosen Man, Jason 'Harris' Salkey out for a few beers.

"Some of the pubs we have in mind have a Napoleonic vibe that might go well with his green jacket and tight breeches!"

Jason Salkey will set up his stall at York Army Museum tomorrow from 11am till 4pm.
