FIRE crews were called to a carbon dioxide leak in North Yorkshire.

Crews from Whitby and Lythe were called to the cellar of a property in Church Street, Whitby, at about 6.30pm on Friday, where a man had been overcome by CO2 leaking from a cylinder.

A spokesman for the fire service said the man had been rescued by two other men, and all were in the care of an ambulance crew when the fire crew arrived.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to remove the cylinders to the open, and activated the cellar’s extraction system to remove the remaining gas.
