The countdown to Christmas has begun at York Minster, with its Christmas carol concert tickets now on sale.

Nearly half the tickets for last year’s concerts were sold on the first day of sales with the prized seats at the front of the nave completely selling out within the first two hours.

This year’s concerts take place on December 15 and 16 at 7pm. Tickets are available from the box office at York Theatre Royal, priced at £25, £18 and £12.

Robert Sharpe, director of music at York Minster, said: “The Christmas carol concerts are an important festive tradition with many people returning year after year. With more than three months to go before the concerts we’re already fielding enquiries for this much-loved event.

“This year’s concerts will feature celebrity readers performing seasonal poetry and readings, as well as classical and traditional Christmas music sung by the full York Minster Choir and the Yorkshire Volunteers Band leading the audience in Christmas carols.”

Tickets have also gone on sale for the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet's annual Winter Wonderland, which arrives at the centre on Saturday, November 19 and runs until Monday, January 2.

Tickets for the ice rink and fun fair go on sale from Monday for this year’s Narnia inspired theme with a 30ft high Christmas tree and a Christmas village.
