SCHOOL children have been left without a bus to school after the company running them closed.

Tower Travel, of Askham Bryan, told parents of St Aidan’s and St John Fisher Catholic High School, both in Harrogate, they were no longer able to continue trading.

Some parents claim to have paid the company to take them to school, but have had to make other arrangements.

The company has endured a tough weekend after one of its coaches full of York City fans was vandalised as it left Barrow on Saturday.

In an e-mail sent out to parents and seen by The Press, bosses said the weekend’s events had forced their hand.

They said: “We will be instructing the services of a licensed insolvency practitioner, following the events occurring this weekend, and professional advice taken this evening. This is not a decision that we have taken lightly and due to the nature of some of the events that have occurred this weekend that could not have been foreseen, we regret that we are no longer able to continue trading.

“On behalf of all the staff here, we would like to apologise for the situation, we do know that this decision will cause significant inconvenience with regards to transporting your children to school, but we do hope that you appreciate that this is not a decision that we have taken lightly and have found ourselves with no other viable option.”

Paul Stansfield, deputy headteacher at St John Fisher, said: “We really feel for the parents because this was dropped on them.

“We have set up a bus with St Aidan’s to get them to school for the rest of the week and some of the other buses have really helped out. We are really trying to dissect this and find out what parents can do.”

The Press tried to get in touch with Tower Travel, but was unable to.
