WORK on Tadcaster bridge is going to carry on around the clock, as engineers race against rising waters.

Piling work has been going on under and around the bridge, but engineers say they are now at a stage where the rising river levels could prolong the work.

To avoid that, they need to finish the foundation work as soon as possible, and for the next two weeks will be working 24 hours a day to make that happen.

An update on North Yorkshire County Council’s website said they will be boring piles, not pile driving, and workers would try to keep engine noise to a minimum.

A statement said: “We apologise in advance for the inconvenience caused but believe to move to 24-hour working for two weeks at this point will significantly reduce the risk of delay from rising river levels.”
