AUTHOR Andy Seed has brought out his first poetry book for pensioners - after ‘road-testing’ the poems with North Yorkshire OAPs.

Andy, of Amotherby, near Malton, says he spent many hours with different kinds of groups in Ryedale, trying out poems, ‘finding that they got everyone talking and laughing about things they used to do when young.’

He said his experiences opened his eyes to the power of poetry almost as therapy for older people.

He said poems gave them the chance to ‘share something that celebrates and chuckles at their world: both at the past that they remember so well and at the tribulations they face in the present – not least to manage the struggles of ageing bodies and minds.”

*Andy will launch and sign the book, published by Valley Press, at Hoppers in Malton between 10am and 1pm on Saturday.
