REVISED plans for a £10 million riverside aparthotel have been submitted to City of York Council.

The application for the scheme in Terry Avenue has been amended after the Environment Agency raised concerns about flooding risks from the nearby River Ouse.

Paul Manku, of planning agent Park Lane Properties, which is acting on behalf of applicants Roomzzz, said it had been in talks with the agency and it was now set to make a financial contribution towards a scheme to improve a flood wall and flood storage area.

He said the height of the building was also set to be reduced by a level to meet concerns about its scale.

He said it would also have a pitched roof to ensure it was in keeping with the area.

Micklegate councillor Johnny Hayes said he understood the proposal was due to go to a planning meeting on September 15, and he had been contacted by architects for the scheme to see if a public meeting could be arranged before then so the revised scheme could be explained.

He said the meeting would take place at 6.45pm next Friday at the Clementhorpe Community Centre in Lower Ebor Street.

If approved, the project will deliver the second large aparthotel in York, the first of which is a 197-apartment Staycity complex next to the Barbican.

The Terry Avenue site, which neighbours Rowntree Park Caravan Club, was originally envisaged as a potential housing development after its role as a start-up base for new firms switched to the York Eco Business Centre at Clifton Moor in 2008, but flooding fears scuppered that plan.

Angry residents spoke out against the plan at a public meeting last November.

They claimed it would put an “oversized” 100-bed hotel on their doorsteps and cause noise.
