THE guests were dressed as everything from Ironman to Hellboy when a shocked sci-fi fan found she was getting “married” during the York Unleashed Comic-Con event at York Racecourse.
About 5,000 film, comic book and sci-fi enthusiasts flocked to Sunday’s Comic-Con on Knavesmire, many in professional and homemade costumes.
Among them were Chris Torretto, 29, and his fiancée Claire Molyneux, 28, from Bishop Auckland.
Chris said Claire thought they were getting married in the next few months at a register office.
Instead, a friend presented her with her wedding dress, and her parents and sister then appeared.
“She started crying with joy,” Chris said.
Sixty guests appeared and the event went ahead.
The mock ceremony will be ratified at a register office later.
Comic-con organiser Lee Hunter said the event had been a huge success, with quality costumes.
