A FLOWER festival at York’s Fairfax House has become a ‘must-see’ for plant-lovers, gardeners and historic houses enthusiasts, say organisers.
New Earswick Flower Club created the floral displays for this year’s biennial event, arriving with a reputation for blending traditional with contemporary design and bringing fresh flowers, foliage and decorative materials together to create innovative displays.
A house spokeswoman said the event was intended to pay homage to the Georgians’ fascination with the natural world. “The Georgians loved bringing flowers - fresh and dried- plants and greenery into their homes” she said.
Demonstrations of the art of flower arranging were given across the Bank holiday weekend by Ann Simpson, a member of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies.
The festival continues until Saturday.
