A MAN'S body has been found between York and Selby.
Police made the discovery in a rural location in Escrick at about 11.20am today.
The death is not being treated as suspicious but police have referred the matter to the IPCC and will not yet say why.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said they attended the site "in connection with concerns for the safety of a man in his 30s."
He added: “Sadly, a man’s body was found at the scene.
"There is no evidence of any suspicious circumstances and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“Investigations are ongoing on behalf of the coroner and police are not currently in a position to confirm the man’s identity.
“North Yorkshire Police has referred this incident to the IPCC and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
The IPCC deals with a large number of investigations. Matters must be referred to the IPCC in a wide range of situations, including:
- where there are allegations that police conduct complained of has led to someone dying or being seriously injured
- where a person has died or sustained serious injury and either:
- had been arrested or was otherwise detained in custody at the time
- had contact of any kind with a person serving with the police that may have caused or contributed to the death or serious injury
