GARDENERS at City of York Council have been praised for the ‘stunning’ display of flowers created this summer in the city centre - particularly around Castle Mills Bridge and Clifford’s Tower.
Council leader David Carr and deputy leader Keith Aspden said the floral displays in various locations around the city looked absolutely stunning this year.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to all the gardening teams for their hard work in planting and tending the tubs, beds and planters across York.”
Kate McMullen, who is head of tourism at Make It York, said: “Floral displays make a huge contribution to the ambience and welcome of a city.
“York’s display this year has made a big impact and it’s especially appreciated that visitors have been greeted by a blaze of floral colours when they first arrive off the train and walk into the city.”
Their comments echoed the views of Press reader Molly Wareham, of Nether Poppleton, who wrote to the newspaper earlier this month to praise the efforts.
In her letter to The Press, she said the display of flowers created and provided by parks department this year was ‘outstanding’.
She particularly commended the baskets, troughs and beds at the roundabout at the Boer War Memorial at Castle Mills Bridge.
