YORK'S transport boss will be asked this autumn to approve major traffic changes on one of the busiest roads into the city.
City of York Council wants to make changes to the bike lanes and parking spaces in Holgate Road, between the Iron Bridge and the junction with Acomb Road and Poppleton Road.
Cllr Ian Gillies, executive member for transport and planning, will be asked to rubber-stamp the changes in October.
The proposals were first revealed in The Press last November and were discussed at the council in April. They were approved then, subject to a consultation, which has now been completed.
There had been calls for improved bike lanes, amid concern that cyclists currently had to move out repeatedly to get past parked cars.
Some local businesses raised concern over the loss of free parking, but council officer Tom Blair said then that spaces were used by people who did not live in the area, such as commuters.
