JUDGES have announced the winner of this month's photography competition, run by The Press.

Shaun Conway's Lamb At Sheriff Hutton was picked out as the best image sent in by our readers.

The prize is a visit to FNS Photography's state-of-the-art studios in Borough-bridge, set in stunning landscaped grounds. The company specialises in distinctive wedding, portrait and commercial photography.

Shaun will be tutored by owners Andy Hopkinson and Sharon Malone, who will be giving him top tips on getting the most from his photography.

Martin Oates, picture editor at The Press and judge of the competition, explained why Shaun's image had won the competition.

He said: "It was a varied selection and difficult to choose the winner. The winning picture was a well back-lit photograph."

At the end of the year the monthly winners will be judged.

The overall winner will receive a 16in x 12in artblox of the winning picture with a portrait sitting worth £50 at FNS Photography, as well as up to £750 to spend on wall art from our range in the studio.

The overall prize is worth £1,000, including the cost of having the winning picture made into an artblox.

The runners-up were David Maughan, from Dunnington, with a picture of Sutton Bank, and a crisp image of some rhododendrons, by Mark Southren. The Press is urging amateur photographers across the region to send their best snaps in for next month's picture competition.

The winning photograph each month will be published in The Press and also used as the image of the month for our online calendar, available to download from our website at www.yorkpress.co.uk.

See the website for more details about the competition. To enter next month's competition, pictures should be emailed to richard.gowland@ycp.co.uk, with Your Pictures as the subject heading.
