A GROUP of York school students is off to Rio in time for the Olympics – and taking dozens of books along with them to help stock a new library.

Rebecca Atkinson and about half a dozen fellow pupils from Manor CEAcademy were given a donation of fiction and non-fiction books by Waterstones in Coney Street to take on their school trip to Brazil with the organisation Everything’s Possible.

Rebecca, 16, from Acomb, said next month’s trip to Rio De Janeiro was a cultural exchange which also involved young people from Hungary and Rio and would develop leadership skills.

She said about 20 students from Manor, mostly year 11 pupils, had applied to go on the trip and went through an interview process to be selected.

They would get to see some of the sports in Rio as well as handing over the donated books to the new library.
