A YORK MP has asked the new Government for assurances that money will be available to improve York’s transport infrastructure.
Julian Sturdy, MP for York Outer, yesterday urged the new Financial Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, not to let the Northern Powerhouse agenda slip.
In the Commons, Mr Sturdy asked the minister whether sufficient funding is in place for deliver key infrastructure needs, like upgrading York’s northern ring road.
Mr Gauke told him the Government was “determined to ensure that there was strong transport infrastructure in the North of England.”
Speaking later, Mr Sturdy said it is his opinion that the congestion on the outer ring road acts as a barrier to economic growth in York.
He added: “I was pleased that the Minister recognised my concerns and I shall continue lobbying the Government to make sure that York’s needs feature at the heart of its commitment to ‘strong infrastructure in the North’.”
