THE new boss at Selby District Council has been officially confirmed.

Janet Waggott is the interim chief executive as part of a new partnership with Ryedale District Council after the decision was ratified at a meeting on Tuesday.

The move aims to foster closer work with the district and county councils.

Janet joins Selby as its current chief executive, Mary Weastell, takes up her new position as chief executive of City of York Council in August.

Leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane, said that the arrangement with Ryedale District Council is designed to ensure Selby can continue with this work.

“This gives us an opportunity to look at how we can work more closely with district council colleagues across North Yorkshire as well as the County Council and I’m pleased to be able to welcome Janet to lead the team at Selby.

"This gives is a chance to look at how we want to further develop in the future and Janet brings with her a tremendous amount of experience operating in this sector.”

Janet Waggott said: “This will be a new joint arrangement with Selby and it gives both Selby and Ryedale the chance to look at whether we can work more closely together, as well as with the County Council and alongside other district and borough councils in North Yorkshire.

"Selby has gone through some big changes over recent months and it’s an exciting time to be joining the new team, which has been put in place to push ahead with the council’s big ambitions of supporting business growth, tourism and developing the district as a place to live.

"There are some big investments planned in the district and we’ve just seen the opening of the Council’s brand new Summit leisure village too, which is helping to really put Selby on the map.”
