York’s Lord Mayor has officially opened an apiary at Carr Allotments.
It is the second at a City of York Council site after one was installed at Bootham Stray allotments last year.
Dave Taylor, who met members of the York Beekeepers’ Association and gardeners at Carr Allotments, said: “We all need to do more to halt the decline in numbers of bees. The area has been transformed by this project as well as other work on the allotments, so I would like to congratulate all those involved. and wish them every success with their beekeeping.””
Rents for a hive at Carr Allotments start at £10 for a year, which includes beekeeping support. Contact Darren.lovatt@york.gov.uk, call 01904 553399 or visit www.york.gov.uk/info/200410/allotments/173/allotments for information.
