IT is ironic that Tracey Simpson-Laing (Letters, June 25) still does not seem to realise that she, and others who speak in the same way, may have played a part in causing the exit majority.

Those leading the exit campaign support sensible, planned immigration and I am sure the same is true of the overwhelming majority of Leave voters.

Many have a rational and legitimate view that unpredictable, unlimited increases in our population year after year cannot be sustainable in an already heavily populated country, significantly short of housing and whose public services are already being overpowered by demand.

They felt that they could not vote to remain in a political union which insists that this is what must be allowed to happen.

Because Tracey Simpson-Laing is unable to explain how unlimited population increase could be managed she resorts to saying that those who voted Leave must be prejudiced against people of other colour, race or religion and motivated by hate.

It is time that she realised that people do not appreciate being insulted in this way.
