STUDENTS, staff and the wider community are being encouraged to get physically active by using a new community trail at the University of York.

The 5k YorActive Trail, which opened on Thursday, connects the two university campuses.

The trail incorporates strength equipment along the route, which includes various landmarks such as Heslington Hall, Heslington Church and culminating at the York Sport Village.

Equipment is located along the route for users to incorporate strength-based exercises into their cardio workout.

York Sport president Grace Clarke said: “The YorActive Trail was made possible thanks to the generous donations of York alumni.

“It is truly invaluable as it encourages all members of the community, staff and students, to get active.

“One of my primary objectives this year as York Sport President was to increase participation and I believe this goes a long way to achieving that.

“People can jog, bike or simply walk the trail with friends, colleagues or family. I want to encourage students, staff and the wider community to get physically active because a healthy body equates to a healthy mind.”
