A FLOOD-hit charity shop in York has finally made it back into its former home, after months of cleaning up and recovery work.
The British Red Cross shop on Walmgate reopens today, Thursday, after a preview evening last night.
Flood water sat in the building for four days in December, meaning everything in the shop had to be scrapped.
Manager Marje Locker said they had managed to get a temporary shop up and running on Gillygate, but would be thrilled to get back into their permanent home after months of hard work and upheaval.
She has also thanked the volunteers who helped the shop get back on its feet - particularly regular supporters Richard and Emma Bonner, and Acomb builder Robin Hackney.
“They were all amazing, Richard and Emma came down with soup and bacon sandwiches to keep us all going, and Robin spent ages washing everything down for us.”
