I WAS shocked by the full page advertisement placed by MPs Nigel Adams and Julian Sturdy (The Press, June 22).
They depict the 28 EU Commissioners, stating correctly that we can’t vote for them or remove them. Their highly illogical conclusion from this is that we should “Vote Leave and Take Back Control”.
They don’t mention that the commissioners are appointed by the 28 elected EU governments. Our commissioner is Jonathan Hill, fourth down in the middle column.
They don’t mention that the EU Commission is not the EU Parliament - which we do elect - but more akin to the British Civil Service. Will they now urge York and Selby to leave the UK, because we don’t elect our civil servants?
Nigel, Julian, we’re not “controlled” by the EU, any more than York is “controlled” by the UK Parliament. And if we were, control by an elected EU parliament would be preferable to control by the unelected paymasters of these MPs.
