THESE are the proposed new designs for Tadcaster Bridge.
North Yorkshire County Council has released the images of the new bridge - complete with wider footpaths and more lighting - subject to planning permission.
The council is engaged in discussions with Historic England over plans to widen and strengthen Tadcaster Bridge during the bridge’s reconstruction.
It has recently been awarded £1.4m by the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to enable the widening and strengthening of the bridge. This comes on top of £3m from the Government for its reconstruction.
Contractor Balfour Beatty has been employed to undertake all of the works. Piling work has started, the council said, and stone supply is in production.
The collapsed section of overhanging arch has been taken down for safety reasons so the piling crew can access through the arches.
