YORK'S first Green Lord Mayor turned up to an environmental event on a very different Mayoral limo - a bicycle made for six.

Cllr Dave Taylor and the rest of the civic party got into gear ahead of the ‘One Planet York’ conference and showed their support for the event by travelling via a ‘bike bus.'

The cycle, loaned for the event by Get Cycling, a community interest company, was given a DN2 'registration plate' - the number for the Lord Mayor's official limousine.

The Lord Mayor said: "As a Civic Party, we will be looking at how we travel to all Civic events, as many are accessible on foot in the city centre."

The conference, part of the York Festival of Ideas and held at the University of York's Ron Cooke Hub, called on the city’s businesses and residents to pledge their support towards creating a more sustainable and resilient city.

The initiative focuses on ten key principles, including zero waste, zero carbon, sustainable transport, health and wellbeing, land use and wildlife and sustainable food and water.
