Thirsk's sidecar racer Tony Thirkell and passenger Roy King rounded off their assault on the TT Centenary meeting on the Isle of Man enjoying the sun, cold beer and a bronze replica.

Thirkell and King completed four laps of the 37 mountain circuit in just one hour, five minutes and 25 seconds with an average speed of 103.794 - finishing 19th - two positions higher than their display in Monday's race.

The pair moved up from 23rd by lap two and two more places by lap three - securing 19th as they crossed the line.

With a mere 0.82 of a second behind (Neil Kelly and Jason O'Connor) and 0.53 of a second in front of their immediate pursuers, (Mike Cookson and Kris Hibberd) it was a close contest.

The pair's average speed was less than Monday's result due to two accidents on the track.

"The marshals were waving yellow flags - we had to slow right down to 30 miles an hour at Ballacrane and coming over the mountain," said Thirkell.

Improvements to the technical set-up, including adjusting the suspension made it a smoother ride for King, who pats the road before every race to pay respect (and pray for luck) to the legendary course .

He said: "You can be an inch out approaching a bend and it puts you a yard out on the exit - a yard out and you could hit a lamp-post."

His superstition obviously paid off for the duo.
