PUPILS at a York school are sending their work to Glastonbury, where it will be seen by the likes of Adele, Coldplay and the Syrian National Orchestra as they prepare to take to the stage.

Youngsters from Years 7 to 9 at Bootham School have been working on a project in conjunction with Oxfam to create a wall hanging for the VIP area, backstage at the Glastonbury Festival in June. It has been inspired by Oxfam’s current campaign theme, “working together for a cleaner, greener, fairer world”.

The main slogan, “everyone deserves a home” was developed and created by Bootham’s Year 8 students in their lessons with Bootham’s head of art, David Swales, after studying the socially conscious work of artist Bob Roberta Smith.

Mr Swales said: “The hanging is festooned with appliqué decorations made by other key stage 3 students in their co-curricular activities with Jade Blood.

"Hanging in the foyer of Bootham’s Ed de Nunzio Art School, it has generated a wave of joy throughout the building and we are all very excited about the prospect of its appearance at Glastonbury.”
