A RISE in bike thefts in a North Yorkshire town has triggered a warning for owners to improve their security.
Police are carrying out extra patrols and urging cyclists in Harrogate to be on their guard.
In the last week, six bikes have been reported stolen in the town centre, bringing the total reported there since the start of April to 21.
The thefts are occurring across all times of day and night and cycles of a value ranging from a few pounds to a few thousand pounds have been targeted
Extra police officers are carrying out targeted patrols to prevent and reduce cycle theft.
Owners are being advised to ensure bikes are secured inside a garage or shed, rather than risk leaving them unattended overnight. If they are left outside, choose a public place.
If you have any information about cycle theft, call North Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
