THE beauty of York Minster's Great East Window has been transported to Chelsea this week, in a Yorkshire garden specially designed for the RHS's flower show.

"God’s Own County – A Garden for Yorkshire" has been designed by Matthew Wilson and created at Chelsea to showcase the county's scenery, heritage, industries and tradespeople. Inspired by the medieval Great East Window at York Minster, the garden features a panel of stained glass made using the same methods employed in 1405.

The planting on the upper level celebrates the woodland gardens in the county, while the central perennial planting is inspired by, and designed to echo, the stained glass at the Minster.

A bench created by one of the county's most famous furniture-makers - Robert 'Mousey' Thompson Craftsmen, based in Kilburn - also features in the garden with three of the workshop's signature carved mice.
