A MAN with a history of obsessive stalking of women has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

Daniel Boustead, 25, was sentenced for two sexual assaults at York Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

Aisha Wadoodi, prosecuting, said Boustead's latest offences came on June 3 and September 29 last year.

The first was on an assault on a female prison officer on a train from Hull to York.

Ms Wadoodi said: "He reached across through the gap in the seat, ran his hand up her right leg and asked her what her name was."

On the second occasion he told a nurse at Cross Lane Hospital, Scarborough that he would have sex with her and later pulled up her top.

Chris Dunne, defending, said Boustead should receive a suspended sentence to encourage him to behave better in a "carrot and stick" tactic.

He added: "His behaviour is worrying and he accepts that."

The Recorder of York, Judge Paul Batty QC, said: "I find this case an extremely troubling one.

"You have a history of obsessive stalking of women for which you have received sentences in prison in the past."

He said Boustead's sexual assault on the nurse had been the more serious offence.

"It was unforgivable on your part to make those distressing remarks to her," he said.

Judge Batty added: "You have spent a quite large period of time in custody [on remand] and I have to tailor the sentence to reflect that fact.

"In my judgement society will be best protected in your case by the imposition of a suspended prison sentence."

Boustead, who is originally from Scarborough, but now of no fixed abode, received an eight-month jail term, suspended for two years.

He will also serve a four-month curfew order from 9pm to 7am when he secures accommodation.
