The York Marriott Hotel, in Tadcaster Road, is hoping to be crowned the first Tourism And Hospitality Business Of The Year.

The four-star hotel, which has 151 bedrooms and 120 staff, has already walked away with a top award this year - winning the coveted Employer Of The Year at the York Hospitality Association's awards ceremony.

The York Marriott is also keen to make a difference to the wider community and this year staff have been involved with projects ranging from giving career talks in schools to sprucing up city parks.

In June they will be spending two days at Windsor House Care Home, in Acomb, to decorate the lounge and help out in the garden.

General manager Katharina Barenthien said: "We feel we are the leading hotel in York and are very proud of not only the product we offer our guests, but also the involvement we have within our local community.

"Entering awards such as these brings not only plaudits for the hotel but also rewards our associates for the hard work they put into the business."
