A MUM whose daughter died at just five months has been reduced to tears after kind-hearted strangers helped her raise hundreds of pounds for a headstone.

Becky Adams is raising money to buy a tribute to her daughter, Oceon, who died in her sleep in February.

The Press told the heartbreaking story on Tuesday and donations have since hit £400 on Miss Adams' GoFundMe account.

"I was crying my eyes out because people were donating so fast, it was wonderful," said the 30-year-old.

"I haven't got a lot of support but people have been messaging me saying they will be sending me some money in the post."

Miss Adams, who is also mum to four-year-old Lacey, is organising fundraising events and will host a family fun day on Sunday at the Shoulder of Mutton pub, in Heworth Green.

York-based Rowntrees read about the ordeal and has promised to donate a hamper for Miss Adams' to raffle on the day.

Other supporters have also come forward and offered the single mum help and advice.

"Mums who has lost their children and have been in the same position as me have contacted me," she added.

"They told me to get in touch if I need to speak with them because sometimes it's easier to speak to people you don't know."

Despite the support and counselling Miss Adams has been getting, she says the tragedy of losing her daughter is yet to sink in.

"Everything doesn't feel real at the moment," she said.

"It feels like she is still somewhere else.

"I can't move anything that belonged to her because getting rid of it is like losing a bit of Oceon."

The family fun day begins at noon and will include a bouncy castle, tombola, raffle, stalls and a barbecue.
