A NEW exhibition will examine the history behind Treasurer’s House in York.

The display will reveal the true story behind the house and see which parts were knocked down and which rooms were repurposed.

It will also look at former resident Frank Green, who most shaped the space you can see today.

He had the wealth to indulge his passions for travel and collecting antiquities and created his version of a historic house. In the late 1800s he bought three separate buildings and set-to creating the house you see today.

Clare Alton-Fletcher, exhibition manager, said: “The more you unpick the story of Treasurer’s House and Frank Green – the more fascinating it becomes. He was a man who had the means to create what he wanted and left his house, complete with his collection to the National Trust. However, unlike other places, it also came with strict instructions not to change or move what he had created”.

The exhibition will also look at other historic properties in the area.

- ‘Demolition and Restoration’ opens on Friday, May 6, until the end of the year. Treasurer’s House is open daily from 11am to 4.30pm. For further details call 01904 624247 or visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk.treasurershouse
