THE A170 near Sutton Bank has been reopened after an accident on Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened around 2.30pm and police asked drivers to avoid the area.
The road was closed between Sutton under Whitestonecliffe and Sutton Bank, because of a reported two car crash, but reopened around 4.30pm.
Fire crews had to cut an elderly man, who was suffering back pain, out of one of the cars by removing the roof. They used hydraulic cutting equipment, stabilisation gear, small tools and sharps protection.
