A HUGE development in Thorpe Willoughby could see nearly 300 new homes built in the village.

Miller Homes want to construct 276 new homes at Barff Farm, on the east of the village, and have submitted their "reserved matters" planning application to Selby District Council.

The site got outline approval in January 2015, and the fresh application includes details of the layout and house types, and what will happen to the bridleway that crosses what is currently grass fields on the site.

A design and access statement for the application shows that Miller want to build 276 new houses - including some two, three, four and five bedroom houses - and say they will include a "significant number" of affordable smaller houses scattered around the development.

The plans also include a single access point onto Leeds Road and 3.26 acres of new public open space. If the plans are approved, a large chunk of the green space in the middle of the development, will have the existing bridleway crossing it and then continuing beside one of the residential roads.

The planning documents say the site is "well positioned" in relation to established residential neighbourhoods and local facilities in Thorpe Willoughby, and are also within two to three minutes walk of bus stops to travel into Selby or Leeds - giving new residents easy access to public transport and employment opportunities.
