Toolstation Northern Counties East League: Nostell MW 0 Tadcaster Albion 5

TADCASTER Albion wore down a tough Nostell Miners' Welfare side to keep the pressure on leaders Handsworth Parramore, who have played a game more but are only two points in front.

Albion boss Billy Miller made three changes to the side that lost to Clipstone in midweek, with Gary Stevens, Jimmy Beadle and Nick Black coming back in place of Leon Wrigglesworth, Nick Thompson and Adam Baker.

The deadlock was broken after ten minutes. Jonathan Greening’s teasing corner was flicked on by Jimmy Beadle, and scrambled over the line by centre back Andy Milne for his fourth of the season.

Nostell equalised in what remained a reasonably uneventful first half but it was disallowed for handball.

Matt Johnson lofted the ball into the danger area from a free-kick, and Ryan Donoghue fooled no-one by hand-balling the pill into the back of the net.

The Brewers went straight up the other end and Josh Greening teed up Beadle, whose audacious 25-yard volley flew narrowly wide.

Visiting defender Gregg Anderson came close to doubling the Brewers’ lead at the start of the second half.

Jonathan Greening’s corner led to some pinball in the six-yard box before Anderson’s fierce shot was deflected just over.

Nostell nearly equalised but it wasn't of their own making as Ryan Sharrocks’ near-post free-kick was sliced by Taddy skipper Beadle, Stevens reacting superbly to only concede a corner.

Albion needed a second goal and, after 65 minutes, Beadle had a glorious chance.

Josh Greening raced through on goal but opted to roll the ball sideways to the onrushing Beadle, whose effort was well stopped by Neil Bennett.

When Nostell did test Stevens, Milne's last-ditch tackle kept the Brewers in front.

Miller had seen enough and, with less than 20 minutes to go, he brought on Adam Baker and Carl Stewart, and this unlocked a flurry of goals.

Jonathan Greening's perfect corner dropped on to Black’s right foot, the attacker side-footing powerfully into the roof of the net for his ninth of the campaign.

Taddy then turned on the style to cruise to victory, Jonathan Greening spraying the ball out to Baker on the right, who beat his man and sent an inviting cross to Josh Greening, who powered home his header from three yards out.

Stewart should have got on the scoresheet in the 82nd minute from Dan Clayton's gorgeous ball around the defence but got the ball stuck under his feet.

Stevens, making his return from injury, thwarted substitute Fidel Mhlolo to preserve the clean sheet, and moments later Stewart made it 4-0 with a stunning solo goal.

The striker picked the ball up on the left and surged infield, evading three players, before arrowing a precise shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Josh Greening's 20th of the season came in the final minute when Stewart held the ball up well before brilliantly reversing it to the rapid Baker, who squared it perfectly for Greening, who could not miss from seven yards.

Sixth-placed Pickering Town had some worrying moments, despite defeating 19th-placed visitors Brigg Town 4-1.

Brigg were reduced to ten men in the 55th minute when Scott Matthews was involved in an off-the-ball incident but they took the lead six minutes later via an unmarked Scott Hellewell.

Another key moment was when Pikes defender Matthew Turnbull tangled with Paul Gray when the Brigg player was clear on goal but no foul was given.

Turnbull levelled in the 73rd minute, and more late goals came from Liam Shepherd (75 minutes, 89) and Callum Ward (80).
