DETECTIVES have released this image of a man suspected of a distraction burglary.

North Yorkshire Police said the incident happened at a house in Grange Road, Camblesforth, at about 3.45pm on Monday, February 29, when the suspect told his victims he was a plain-clothes police officer.

A spokesman said the suspect arrived in a small white van and talked his way into the house after claiming he was an undercover detective investigating rogue builders who had been operating in the area. He left the house with cash and drove off in the van in the direction of Brigg Lane.

The suspect was white, aged between 30 and 35, about 5ft 6in tall with a stocky build, medium-length black hair combed in a wavy style. He was wearing smart black trousers, a white shirt unbuttoned at the collar, and grey trainers with orange flashes on them.

The victims, a couple in their seventies, are receiving support from police, but detectives want to hear from anyone who recognises the suspect or saw the small white van he was in.
