PICK Me Up Theatre make a quick change of show tonight, switching from Les Miserables to She Stoops To Conquer for three nights before resuming the Boublil and Schonberg musical on Wednesday to Saturday.

It will be all-change backstage at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York, when the 55-strong company of Les Mis moves out over this weekend for a well-earned rest. George Stagnell's production has had standing ovations and rave reviews in its opening week.

In comes Oliver Goldsmith’s comedy. First performed in 1773, She Stoops is a firm favourite after all these years and Robert Readman's production went down a storm when it was commissioned for a special birthday celebration at Pocklington School.

Director Readman says: “This play is just a hoot. It’s a wonderful comedy of errors with everyone getting mixed up: mistaken identities, farcical goings on, and larger-than-life comic characters.”

A few of the cast of Les Miserables are performing in She Stoops too and are looking forward to the step-change in tone as the very serious Victor Hugo story makes way for Goldsmith’s romp. Backstage crew are set to switch costumes while the hair and make-up team are preparing an altogether more refined look.

Tickets are on sale from pickmeuptheatre.com, in person from the York Theatre Royal box office or on 01904 623568.
