AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a 38-year-old man killed by a train in York.
Gary Parkin, of Sycamore Place, near Bootham in York, died after stepping in front of a train close to New Earswick on Monday afternoon.
The driver of the Scarborough to Liverpool train braked, but was unable to avoid hitting Mr Parkin.
Wigginton Road was closed near Crichton Avenue until about 6.50pm as a result of the incident.
York's acting senior coroner Jonathan Leach opened the inquest on Friday and adjourned it until April 20.
