IT is 50 years since the last train ran on the York to Beverley railway.
The route was closed during the Beeching cuts.
The campaign to reopen it continues to gather strength, however, fuelled by soaring rail passenger numbers, congested roads, and the need for better transport links for the 'northern powerhouse'.
The cost would be high - more than £200 million. But there would be huge regional benefits in terms of ease of travel, tourism, and business.
Chancellor George Osborne pledged real investment in transport infrastructure.We'd like to see this high on the list of priorities.
