SNOW has been sweeping across the North York Moors and down the Yorkshire coastline, making driving conditions treacherous.
The A169 between Whitby and Pickering was closed temporariy this afternoon because of snow and ice, although North Yorkshire Police later said it had re-opened but was only passable with care.
Motorists are also experiencing 'challenging' driving conditions on A171 between Whitby and Scarborough, near the Flask Inn, because of snow and ice.
Traffic officers tweeted at 4pm that the route was passable with care, adding: "Please avoid if you can and take care if you need to take the route."
Meanwhile, drivers were also advised to avoid the Foreshore at Scarborough because waves were breaking over the sea wall and hitting the road.
