RED-LETTER days await the have-a-go trophy hunters of Headlands Primary School.

The youngsters swept to title conquest in League C' of the York Schools' Primary Football Leagues and as winners go into the end-of-season Champions tournament.

To wrap up the title Headlands saw off Yearsley Grove with goals from Joe Galloway and Nigel Holland and, said coach Pete Vasey, they will be applying their special brand of team-work to the Champions League-type conclusion to the campaign.

Vasey, a former York City junior and currently one of the founder runners of the Football In The Community initiative at the KitKat Crescent club, has been in charge of the Headlands team for two years.

He told The Press: "The great strength of this current bunch of lads is how we have pulled through with a great team spirit. We've not got a big squad to choose from in terms of numbers, but all the players play for each other.

"Last season we had some outstanding individual talent but we only finished second. This season we have shown that if you haven't got teamwork then you're not going to get very far. All of them are looking forward to playing in the Champions League event."
