NORTH Yorkshire celebrity chef and television presenter James Martin and 2015 Mercury Prize nominees Wolf Alice will perform at York Barbican next year.

Martin, host of BBC1's Saturday morning cookery show, is booked for February 28 as part of his first ever British tour, while Ellie Roswell's London band will make their Barbican bow on March 17.

Martin's Plates, Mates And Automobiles show will mark the 20th anniversary of his first television appearance, since when he has built up a weekly audience in excess of 3.5 million.

His multi-media live show will be fast paced, interactive and high tech, packed with his signature cooking demonstrations, surprises and very special guest appearances.

“I’ve been cooking live on TV for 20 years now and I felt it was time to do something I’ve never done before that was truly special," said James, who was executive chef at Malton's Talbot Hotel for three years until stepping down from his post earlier this year.

"I’m so excited to be heading out on my first ever tour, doing what I do best but on the big stage. I can’t wait to get out there and visit so many great parts of the UK, this show is going to be super cool. I’m pulling out my favourite recipes and mixing in plenty of surprises and special guests in what I hope is going to be feast of a live show. Hope to see you there!”

Martin began catering-college studies at 16 and opened his first restaurant at 22. He has written 15 cookbooks, the latest being Sweet, in honour of his roots as a pastry chef, and he is a car and motorbike enthusiast too, hence his tour's title.
