PASTRY fans in York will be pleased to hear of the city's newest shop.
The Pop In & Eat (PI&E) shop, which forms the retail arm of the York Pie Company, has opened in Front Street in Acomb, between Boyes and Acorn butchers. It will sell handmade pies, cakes, coffee and smoothies. The pies are made in Poppleton.
Darren Wiseman of York Pies, who has set up the shop, said: "We've been planning this for six months. It's a pie shop and cafe as well. They are our first retail premises, so it's really exciting."
The shop held a tasting day on Tuesday, and officially opened the day after.
Darren added: "Our new customers like the idea of it, it's good English takeaway food, something a bit different."
Although secretive about the details, Mr Wiseman also has plans to follow up the new shop with undisclosed city centre premises in the future.
