A MAN has appeared in court accused of robbing two York schoolgirls of their shoes.

Darryl Kwiatkowski, 23, of Jute Road, York, was arrested in connection with the theft of a pair of pink, children's Adidas boots from outside a property in Tostig Avenue on September 1.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said officers were called to reports of the theft and questioned Kwiatkowski, who was arrested and charged with theft the same day.

He was also charged with two robberies during which schoolgirls had their shoes stolen, which North Yorkshire Police previously told The Press officers did not believe were connected.

The first took place on September 10, 2014, in Millfield Lane, Nether Poppleton, when a 15-year-old girl was pushed to the ground from behind and robbed of her shoes and socks while walking home.

The second incident happened on Friday, June 19, this year at the junction of Ostman Road and Viking Road, Acomb, when a 10-year-old girl was approached by a man who stole her shoes.

Kwiatkowski appeared before York and Selby Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to the theft in Tostig Avenue. No pleas were entered over the two robbery charges, and he was remanded in custody to appear before York Crown Court later this month.
