A MOTORCYCLIST who was seriously injured in a crash on Sunday remains in hospital.

The 38-year-old man, from Barnsley, was riding a black Kawasaki on the B1217 between Towton and the A1, when he was in collision with a white Toyota Prius close to the Crooked Billet at Saxton at about 5.50pm.

He was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries, which were initially classed as life changing, but a police spokeswoman said yesterday they were not believed to be life-threatening. He remains in hospital. The driver of the Prius was uninjured.

The B1217 was closed in both directions between Saxton and Lotherton Hall, for several hours after the crash while North Yorkshire Police's collision investigation unit was on its way to the scene to examine the area.

Anyone who was travelling along the B1217 between Towton and Lotherton Hall and either witnessed the collision, saw either of the vehicles before the crash, or recalls being overtaken by a group of motorcyclists travelling between the two locations, is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101and ask for Traffic Sergeant Julian Pearson or Traffic Constable Mark Patterson.
