EXTRA police patrols will be out in York this Bank Holiday weekend.

Operation Erase will be held again this weekend, with North Yorkshire Police, British Transport Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, City of York Council and other agencies on the streets to crack down on antisocial behaviour.

Similar operations have been carried out throughout the summer, following a trial in March, to reassure residents and improve the atmosphere of the night-time economy for visitors.

Inspector Andy Godfrey, of York Police, said: "Operation Erase is running, and we will be conducting high-visibility patrols in York city centre.

"We want everyone to be able to enjoy the city of York and feel safe. Working with partners, we will take action against anyone whose behaviour falls below an acceptable standard, including the use of dispersal powers to remove people from the city centre. As always, we want to educate people to be aware of their alcohol consumption, their behaviour, and its effects on others."

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they were expecting this weekend to be among the busiest of the year, with up to 2,000 people expected to phone 999 each day over the Bank Holiday.
