HUGE vegetables, beautiful flowers and impressive handicraft will all go on show at Poppleton Road Allotment's annual show.

Due to be held in the Holy Redeemer Church Hall, in Boroughbridge Road on September 5, the 61st annual event will showcase the hard work of the Acomb allotment holders.

Peter Byrne, holder of the Alan Elcock Memorial trophy for growing giant onions, said: "It's a local event and it shows the skills of the people around the allotments and what they do. It's a big family event."

Among the stalls will be a full range of vegetables, a flower section, a best vase category, potato weighing and handicrafts and cookery.

There will also be paintings and photography along the theme of allotment life.

- Poppleton Road Allotment's annual show will begin at 2pm on September 5. Everyone is welcome.
